This procedure is for patients with deformations or development failures of shin muscles, in some cases, those with noticeable difference in calves and partially with bone deformations (X- and O-shaped).
More widespread is the asymmetry of the shins, insufficient development of shin muscles from either one or two sides or their constitutional features, consequences of diseases and traumas and, at last, dissatisfaction with the form of shins.
Inflammatory diseases, damages of nerves, congenital features can be the reason of asymmetry. This kind of surgery might arouse body builders’ interest (for the purpose of emphasizing the contours of shins when the reserve of muscles growths is exhausted).
What this surgery can give:
1) Shin form and contour improvement
2) Shin volume increase
3) Asymmetry elimination
4) Elimination of bones deformation
This procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes 2 hours. The surgeon makes the incision in the posterior area of the knee, through which an implant is inserted beneath the shin muscles to make the shin more pronounced. Several implants may be inserted. After the surgery special linen is put on to reduce the risk of postoperative complications. Within 2-3 months incisions are hardy visible.
Post-Surgery Period
It is necessary to stay in the hospital up to 2 days. Seams are removed within 7-14 days. The first day after the surgery it is preferable to avoid strenuous activities and shoes with high heals.
Restriction of movement and special linen are obligatory. You can feel pain at walking and moving your legs. To feel better you can rest with raised legs and take pain relievers, prescribed by your doctor.
Rehabilitation period takes about 4-6 weeks. Any sports should not be practiced this time.
Nowadays shin correction by means of implants is the safest, most effective and involves minimum risk of causing by-effects. Not only shin volume may be corrected, but also all bottom limb by means of the big implants and such additional procedures as liposuction.
